Columbus Crew defender Steven Moreira called up to represent Cape Verde Islands
Patrick Schulte and Aidan Morris are not the only Crew players to be called up to a national team during the October FIFA International Window.
The Crew announced Monday defender Steven Moreira was selected to represent Cape Verde Islands in its international friendly against Algeria Oct. 12 at Stade Chahid Hamlaoui in Constantine, Algeria.

Moreira was born in Noisy-le-Grand, France and represented France at the youth level.
Both of Moreira's parents are from the Cape Verde Islands.
The Cape Verde Islands consist of 10 islands that lie 385 miles off the west coast of Africa.
Since joining the Crew in 2021, from FC Toulouse of Ligue 2, the French second division, Moreira has one goal and 15 assists in 72 league matches. Moreira played in 58 Ligue 1 matches in five seasons with Stade Rennais and 28 games with FC Lorient in Ligue 1 before moving to Toulouse.
The Crew will host CF Montreal in the final match of the 2021 regular season at 6 p.m. Oct. 21.
