Colts QB Anthony Richardson ready to return vs. Miami: 'Excited just to get going again.'

WESTFIELD -- Anthony Richardson is hoping to return to the field this Sunday after two weeks of resting his oblique and hip injuries.

That is currently the plan so long as the second-year quarterback doesn't suffer any setbacks in practice this week, Colts coach Shane Steichen said.

"If that's the case, if that's the option, I'm definitely excited to get back on the field, especially with this guy, if he's available," Richardson said, pointing to All-Pro running back Jonathan Taylor. "We're excited just to get going again."

Richardson and Taylor were participating in a community event at Dairy Queen in Westfield, where the two combined to "sauce and toss" two styles of chicken strips to give out to a crowd of fans.

"That move right there, that's my rehab move," Richardson said, joking about a hip thrust he made to toss the strips.

Richardson missed a second straight game Sunday despite practicing three straight days last week. The No. 4 pick in last year's draft dressed for the game and was designated the team's emergency quarterback as Joe Flacco started the 20-17 victory over the Titans.

Steichen said the decision was purely precautionary to let Richardson heal entirely from the shot he took from Minkah Fitzpatrick in a win over the Steelers two weeks prior.

“We want to make sure he's 100%. That's really what went into the decision," Steichen said. "He's really close. He's really close. That’s why we had him as our third emergency quarterback, but he should be looking really good this week.”
