COLLEGE SPORTS: Tate and Gregorski named UTPB athletes of the month

Nov. 4—UTPB has announced Will Tate (Men's Golf) and Gabby Gregorski (Volleyball) as the October Student-Athletes of the Month.

On the first day of October, Tate tied for second place and led the UTPB men's golf team to a win at the RJGA South Central Shootout (Sept. 30-Oct. 1). It was the third tournament win for the Falcons in program history. Tate shot two-under-par during the first round, was even-par during each of the final two rounds, and rose six spots on the individual leaderboard from round two to round three. He was later named the Lone Star Conference Men's Golfer of the Week. In UTPB's other two tournaments in October, Tate tied for 20th place at the Ryan Palmer Foundational Invitational (Oct. 7-8) and tied for 33rd at the Herby Wimberly Memorial (Oct. 14-15).

Gregorski has been the Falcons' starting libero in every match this season. She finished the month of October by averaging 5.34 digs per set (155 total digs) across eight matches. She recorded at least 20 digs in five matches during the month of October, including a career-high 31 digs in a 3-1 home win over Western New Mexico University (Oct. 19). It was tied for the seventh most digs in a match in all of the LSC this season and was the third most in a four-setter. In all, Gregorski has recorded 20 or more digs in 10 matches this season. By the end of month, Gregorski ranked third in the Lone Star Conference and 22nd nationally in digs per set (5.32) while leading a team defense that ranked first in the conference and was among the top-30 in the country. As a team, the Falcons were first in the LSC in opponents' hitting percentage (.144), opponents' assists (10.38 AVG/S) and opponents' kills (11.48 AVG/S) at the end of October, and in all of NCAA Division II, they were 29th in opponents' hitting percentage (.144) and 45th in digs per set (17.19).
