College football rankings: Where LSU football ranks in latest preseason poll

BATON ROUGE — LSU football comes in at No. 13 in the Associate Press preseason poll for the 2024 season.

The rankings were released Monday, a couple of weeks before the start of the college football season kicks off on Aug. 24.

LSU is coming off its second straight 10-win season under head coach Brian Kelly. Since taking over prior to the 2022 season, Kelly has led the Tigers to a 20-7 overall record, including a 12-4 Southeastern Conference mark, and has won an SEC West division crown in his first season.

Despite losing Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Jayden Daniels, expectations remain high for LSU in 2024 as Garrett Nussmeier takes over the offense at QB as well as Kelly overhauling his entire defensive coaching staff.

Five SEC teams rank ahead of the Tigers in the AP poll, including Georgia, Texas, Missouri, Ole Miss and Alabama, the last two LSU will play during the 2024 regular season.

In the new era of the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff, the Tigers starting the season in the 12 spot signifies where coaches and most national pundits believe they are, a borderline CFP team and could play its way into the field.

LSU capped last season at No. 12 in the final Coaches Poll.
