College Football Playoff: Georgia moves to No. 1 ahead of Ohio State

Georgia is the new No. 1 team in the College Football Playoff rankings.

The Bulldogs' big 52-17 win over Ole Miss on Saturday night moved Georgia from No. 2 ahead of Ohio State. The Buckeyes dropped to No. 2 despite a big win over Michigan State while the rest of the top five was unchanged with Michigan, Florida State and Washington filling out the other three spots.

The Buckeyes had taken the top spot in the first two sets of rankings thanks to wins over Penn State and Notre Dame. But Georgia now boasts the best two wins of any of the five undefeated Power Five teams with their victories over the Rebels and Missouri over the last two weeks.

Ole Miss dropped from No. 9 to No. 13 after the loss. Missouri moved up five spots to No. 9 after a dominating win over Tennessee.

Penn State, meanwhile, is a spot ahead of Ole Miss and Notre Dame is at No. 19.

Oregon remained the top team with one loss at No. 6 and is followed again by Texas and Alabama. The Ducks, Longhorns and Tide have stayed in those spots for the first three sets of rankings. If they keep winning, they're going to move up before the end of the season.

Louisville dropped to No. 10 behind Mizzou after a win over Virginia on Thursday. Oregon State is at No. 11 ahead of a massive game against Washington in Week 12. The Pac-12 matchup is the biggest game of the weekend.

How Mizzou's move impacts the New Year's Six picture

The playoff picture will sort itself out over the next three weeks as Ohio State and Michigan meet in the final week of the regular season and Alabama and Georgia are set for a matchup in the SEC title game. Outside of Georgia's move over Ohio State, the Tigers' jump into the top 10 was the most significant movement on Tuesday night.

Missouri's ranking means the Tigers are in line for a New Year's Six bowl game if they beat Florida and Arkansas to end the regular season. With one of the spots in the New Year's Six games going to the top Group of Five team — Tulane — and the ACC set to have a team in the Orange Bowl no matter what, the Tigers jumped over both Ole Miss and Penn State in the New Year's Six pecking order. At the moment, the Rebels would be the first team left out of the New Year's Six mix.
