Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Detroit Pistons live score updates, recap

CLEVELAND — Kenny Atkinson is making his home debut as Cavaliers coach with his predecessor standing along the same sideline.

Atkinson and the Cavaliers, coming off of their season-opening win in Toronto, are playing their first home game against J.B. Bickerstaff and the Detroit Pistons Friday night at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.

Cavaliers, Pistons final score: Cleveland beats Detroit

The Cavs are 2-0 after beating the Detroit Pistons 113-101 Friday night at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.

Donovan Mitchell and Dean Wade both finished with a team-high 19 points. Mitchell also had five assists. Wade had five rebounds and two steals.

Jarrett Allen had a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Evan Mobley had a stat-stuffing night with 16 points, six rebounds, three assists, four steals and two blocks.

Ty Jerome had a solid night as well, scoring 13 points off the bench and dishing out four assists.

Cade Cunningham had a game-high 33 points for Detroit.

Dean Wade has 16 points; Cavaliers lead Pistons in fourth quarter

Dean Wade is having a tremendous night for the Cavs, who are now cruising past the Pistons in the fourth quarter.

Wade just hit back-to-back 3s, and the Cavs have extended their lead to 105-91 midway through the fourth quarter.

Wade has 19 points on 7-for-9 shooting from the floor, including five 3s, to go with three rebounds and two steals. The 19 points are a team high.

Ronald Holland II pushes Georges Niang; both called for technical fouls

Ronald Holland Jr., with the ball, appeared to push Georges Niang as the Pistons were coming up the floor. Niang turned around, pointed at Holland and began exchanging words. Both were called for technical fouls.

Donovan Mitchell leads Cavs on a run to end third quarter; Cavs-Pistons score update

Donovan Mitchell followed his own free throw miss with a rebound and got the put-back to go, and the Cavs have opened up a 91-79 lead over Detroit entering the fourth quarter.

Mitchell now has a team-high 16 points on 7-for-16 shooting.

Cade Cunningham drove to the basket as the third quarter expired but missed the shot. Cunningham thought he was fouled and was called for a technical foul.

Mitchell made the free throw, so technically the Cavs begin the fourth quarter with a 92-79 lead thanks to the tech.

Cade Cunningham, Pistons fight back to cut into Cavaliers lead

Cade Cunningham, J.B. Bickerstaff and the Pistons are fighting back.

Cunningham has a game-high 30 points on 13-for-21 shooting, and Detroit has scratched their way back to a four-point deficit, 83-79, with 2:21 to go in the third quarter.

After Cunningham's 30, no other player has more than 15 points tonight. Jarrett Allen leads the Cavs with 15 points and nine rebounds.

Kenny Atkinson called for a timeout to try to slow things down, as Cunningham is just slicing through their defense.

Who's winning the Cavs-Pistons game? Cleveland leads at halftime

The Cavs ended the second quarter on a run and will enter halftime leading 65-55.

Jarrett Allen has a team-high 12 points and four rebounds. Evan Mobley has 10 points, three rebounds and two blocks. Donovan Mitchell is just 3-for-9 from the floor for six points, though he also has five assists.

Dean Wade has 11 points off the bench on 4-for-5 shooting.

Cade Cunningham has a game-high 18 points for the Pistons.

Ty Jerome making an impact; Cavs lead Pistons in second quarter

It's been a long, long time since Ty Jerome was healthy enough to play serious minutes. He's doing a lot of with his time tonight.

Jerome has been everywhere for the Cavs in this second quarter, scoring six points and dishing out an assist on a Dean Wade 3-pointer.

The Cavs lead the Pistons 46-43 with 5:16 left in the half.

Cavs, Pistons score: Evan Mobley block leads to a Donovan Mitchell dunk

The Cavs tied it 35-35 on a nice sequence.

Donovan Mitchell went for a loose ball but couldn't get to it, though that ended up being a positive. Mitchell was left near midcourt for a moment as Evan Mobley rejected a shot attempt.

That led to an easy outlet pass from Darius Garland to Mitchell, who was already behind the Detroit defense for a score-tying dunk.

Cleveland Cavs trail Detroit Pistons by one point at the end of the first quarter

The Cavs trailed the Pistons 29-28 at the end of the first quarter.

Guard Cade Cunningham led the Pistons with nine points in the opening quarter on 4-of-6 shooting from the field. Fellow guard Malik Beasley had eight points, and his 3-pointers on consecutive possessions gave the Pistons a 27-24 edge with 3:08 remaining in the first quarter.

Point guard Darius Garland led the Cavs with nine points in the first quarter on 3-of-5 shooting (all 3-pointers).

Cavaliers fire back vs. Pistons and take 20-19 lead with 5:28 left in the first quarter

A one-handed dunk from center Jarrett Allen on an alley-oop from Garland and a 3-pointer by forward Dean Wade off a steal courtesy of Garland gave the Cavs five quick points and a 20-19 lead.

After the sequence, the Pistons used a timeout with 5:28 left in the opening quarter and the Cavs leading 20-19.

Cavs trail Pistons 15-12 with 7:37 left in the first quarter

With 7:37 remaining in the first quarter, the Cavs called their first timeout after guards Jaden Ivey and Tim Hardaway Jr. made 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions to give the Pistons a 15-12 advantage. As a team, Detroit made its first three 3-pointers.

At this juncture, Garland led the Cavs with nine points on 3-of-4 shooting from the field (all 3-pointers).
