Cleveland Browns training camp day 6: Live updates from The Greenbrier

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. — The Browns are nearing the end of their West Virginia adventure.

Thursday will mark the sixth full practice day for the Browns at The Greenbrier. They're scheduled to be in full pads, which should provide the most competitive practice yet this year.

The Browns will wrap up their stay in West Virginia on Friday. They'll practice in the morning before flying back to Cleveland afterwards.

Follow along here for updates from their penultimate Greenbrier practice, as well as everything head coach Kevin Stefanski had to say.

Deshaun Watson's throw of the day: TD strike to Cedric Tillman

The best throw of what was mostly a very non-descript day for quarterback Deshaun Watson came on the next-to-last throw he had during the initial 11 on 11 period. On the play, Watson fired a perfectly-placed ball on a go route down the right sideline to Cedric Tillman, who was tightly guarded by cornerback Justin Hardee.

Tillman pulled in the pass around the 15 and got out of Hardee's grasp and ran into the end zone.

Ronnie Hickman becomes latest Cleveland Browns safety to get sidelined

The Browns didn't have either Rodney McLeod or D'Anthony Bell in uniform at the start of Thursday's practice for various reasons. That already left them thin at safety.

Second-year pro Ronnie Hickman then suffered what appeared to be some kind of leg injury during 1 on 1 drills early in practice. He eventually left with a trainer and wasn't seen for the final hour or so of practice.

That left the Browns with starters Grant Delpit and Juan Thornhill, but a huge drop-off to their current reserves. That group includes Brady Breeze and Chris Edmonds.

Jerry Jeudy finally practices for Cleveland Browns

Despite some talk prior to practice that wide receiver Jerry Jeudy wouldn't be a full participant in practice, it turned out that the Browns' big offseason acquisition was finally out on the field. Jeudy was in full equipment and went through all of the drills over the 90-minute practice.

Tony Fields II in walking boot, Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah with rest day

The Browns' linebacking corps continues to thin. Tony Fields II, who was getting first-unit reps in the base defense, was seen in a walking boot on his right foot Thursday.

Another linebacker, Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, was not in pads on Thursday. It's believed to be a rest day for the fourth-year pro.

Safety Rodney McLeod was also working to the side for the second practice in a row. McLeod also was out Tuesday.

Za'Darius Smith returns to practice while Myles Garrett, Jerry Jeudy continue ramp-up

Defensive end Za'Darius Smith was back at practice Thursday. He had missed Monday and Tuesday due to personal reasons.

Defensive end Myles Garrett and wide receiver Jerry Jeudy also weren't expected to be full-go in practice. They've done only limited things in practice so far in camp, mostly in install or walk-through periods.

Browns place LB Charlie Thomas III on injured reserve, bring back Caleb Johnson

The Browns made a roster move on Thursday. They placed linebacker Charlie Thomas III on injured reserve, while bringing back linebacker Caleb Johnson.

Thomas was seen on Tuesday wearing a full leg brace before getting into a vehicle.

Johnson, who was with the Browns this offseason, is in his first NFL season out of Miami (Fla.). Originally signed by the Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2023, he spent time his rookie season on the practice squads of the Jets, Steelers and Cardinals.

Kevin Stefanski explains reason for Browns' practice schedule change

There wasn't a cloud in the sky as the Browns took the field Thursday morning around 9 a.m. However, Stefanski said concerns about the potential for them to roll in led to things being moved up more than an hour.

"No, there is was some rain in the forecast around noon," Stefanski said. "I didn't want to mess with that. It looked gorgeous this morning, so just figured we'd move it up a little bit."

Another change in Cleveland Browns' practice schedule

The Browns have shuffled things up yet again this week with regards to practice times. This time, they've moved it up from 10:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

Monday's practice was moved up to 8:45 a.m. due to rain. Tuesday's was moved back to 2:30 p.m. due to storms.

It was sunny as of 8:15 a.m. in the Greenbrier area. The forecast calls for sunshine with some clouds, with highs in the upper 80s.
