Cleveland Browns training camp day 4: Live updates from a rainy day at The Greenbrier

Browns general manager Andrew Berry, left, and coach Kevin Stefanski watch practice during minicamp June 13 in Berea.

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. — Weather has arrived at Cleveland Browns training camp.

Rain has been in the forecast for a majority of the day Monday in the area around The Greenbrier. That includes some substantial thunderstorm threats, especially in the afternoon.

That has already led the Browns to move their practice up to 8:45 a.m. in an attempt to beat at least some of the showers. Of course, it was already raining by the time that hour arrived.

Monday is also the day the Browns are getting the pads back on for the first time. This won't be your father's — or grandfather's — first padded practice, though, so it won't be over-the-top in terms of high contact.

Follow along here for major updates from the Browns' fourth camp practice Monday, as well as any important things said by head coach Kevin Stefanski.

Kevin Stefanski on practice being adjusted by the rain

The Browns were originally scheduled to practice at 11 a.m. However, they moved up their practice to 8:45 a.m. and ended it by 9:50 a.m.

The practice was also moved off of the grass field to the synthetic field located at the bottom of a steep hill at the complex.

“Yeah, I’m really pleased that we’re able to adjust, you know," Stefanski said. "Credit to our logistics team, security, equipment, you name it, to get that operation going, changing the schedule, getting everything down there. I thought they did a great job. I thought the players did a nice job as well adjusting. That’s the name of the game. We’ll continue to do that as necessary, but got our work in and adjusted a few different things just being down there, but made sure that we got our work in.”

Myles Garrett continues to 'ramp-up' but not practicing yet

Defensive end Myles Garrett spent a significant amount of time after the Browns' 50-minute practice Monday working on various running and agility drills with the training staff. The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year has not practiced, officially, in camp, although he has jumped in a couple of times during drills.

Garrett is not on any injury list, meaning he's passed his physical. While he tweaked his right hamstring on the final day of minicamp in June, there's been no indication of that being a long-term issue.

Mike Hall Jr., Dawand Jones, Za’Darius Smith not practicing

Rookie Mike Hall Jr., second-year offensive tackle Dawand Jones and defensive end Za’Darius Smith all were absent from practice Monday. Smith was the only one who had a reason given, those being personal.

Stefanski said it wasn’t injuries for either Hall or Jones. All he would say otherwise was, “No, they’ll be back out shortly. All good.”

Browns sign guard Zach Johnson, place Brian Allen on injured reserve

The Browns made a roster move prior to Monday’s practice. They signed guard Zach Johnson, while placing C/G Brian Allen on injured reserve.

Allen left Saturday’s practice with a calf injury. Injuries have been a problem for him throughout his career with the Los Angeles Rams.

Jerome Ford back in training camp after birth of child

Running back Jerome Ford was back on the practice field Monday. He had missed the first three practices for what was termed “personal reasons.

After practice, Stefanski confirmed that Ford had a new “bundle of joy.” He wouldn’t go into details, saying he wanted Ford to do that on his own.
