ORLANDO, Fla. — You can add two more names to the list of Browns who are returning this season. That includes one kicker making a prodigal son-like comeback to Cleveland.

The Browns officially announced the signings of safety Rodney McLeod and kicker Cade York, both deals which had been previously reported. McLeod will be coming back on a one-year deal, while York returns on a futures deal.

York returns after having been released last August following a disappointing second preseason with the Browns. Originally picked in the fourth round of the 2022 draft out of LSU, he set franchise rookie records for points (107) and point-after kicks (35), while finishing second for field goals made (24) that season.

After being released by the Browns, York spent time on the practice squads of the Tennessee Titans and New York Giants. He was signed to the Giants' active roster, but did not make an appearance and finished the season on injured reserve with a quad injury.

"As you saw with Cade, we’re excited about him," Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said at the owners meetings Monday. "It didn’t work out but you never know how this business works. So the ability to bring back Cade into the fold I think is great for him, for us. So I’m excited about it."

McLeod, 33, and the Browns had been closing in on a deal for more than a week. York, 23, agreed to a deal on Saturday, a day before many of the team's top decision makers began the NFL owners meetings in Orlando, Fla.

Prior to a season-ending biceps injury in Week 11 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, McLeod had carved out a role as the Browns' third safety alongside Grant Delpit and, when healthy, Juan Thornhill. He played in 10 games last season, starting five, and finished with 29 combined tackles and two tackles for loss.

Even after have surgery to fix the injury, McLeod, who will be entering his 13th season, was a prominent presence in the locker room. He became a conduit for defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, with whom he had won a Super Bowl following the 2017 season with the Philadelphia Eagles.

"You know, he's found a way to contribute even without being on the field," Schwartz said of McLeod in a Jan. 10 news conference. "And, I mean, I could be here for a month talking about the respect that I have for Rodney. He wore a helmet for me, two different teams, and another guy that I just totally respect and admire. … They're all veteran guys, and they realize that their contribution to the team doesn't begin and end — or doesn't end with the game field or the practice field. They've been able to find a way to contribute, and our success has a lot to do with that."
