Clemson women's soccer advances to first NCAA Tournament semifinal in program history
Clemson women's soccer is going to its first NCAA Tournament semifinal in program history. The No. 1-seed Tigers beat No. 2-seed Penn State 2-1 on Friday at Historic Riggs Field to advance to the College Cup.
The Tigers will face No. 1-seed Florida State in the semifinals Dec. 1 in Cary, North Carolina. Game time is to be determined.
The match was scoreless at halftime, but Clemson defender Makenna Morris broke the tie with a goal in the 69th minute. Penn State tied it at 1-1 about three minutes later on a goal from Kaitlyn McBean. Clemson forward Caroline Conti put the Tigers back in front in the 84th minute with a score on an assist from defender Harper White.
Clemson (18-3-4) is the top seed in its bracket, the first time in the program's 24 NCAA Tournament appearances the Tigers have earned a No. 1 seed. The Tigers defeated unseeded Radford in Round 1, 8-seed Columbia in Round 2 and 4-seed Georgia in Round 3 before hosting Penn State in the quarterfinal.
Clemson's semifinal match against Florida State is a rematch of this year's ACC Championship game, which the Seminoles won 2-1. Florida State is playing in its fourth consecutive College Cup.
