Clemson women's basketball coach Amanda Butler fired after 12-19 season
CLEMSON — Clemson on Tuesday fired women's basketball coach Amanda Butler after the Tigers finished the season 12-19.
Butler, who coached at Charlotte and Florida prior to Clemson, posted an 81-106 record (32-73 in ACC play) in six years with the Tigers, with two winning seasons. They reached the NCAA tournament in her debut season and made the WNIT tournament twice.
“I thank Amanda for her contributions to our basketball program as head coach for the past six seasons and wish her the best in the future,” Clemson athletic director Graham Neff said in a school release. “We are committed to completing a national search for the next leader of the program as the sport continues to grow.
"We believe that we are resourced and supported in a way to make this one of the top teams in the nation every year.”
In 2022, she signed a contract extension through 2027 and was earning an annual base salary of $305,000. After making the Sweet 16 of the WNIT last season, there was increased optimism about the team's future.
Clemson landed Imari Berry, its highest-rated recruit in program history, in November 2023. The expectation was to pair her with the Tigers' previous highest-rated recruit, Ruby Whitehorn.
But Clemson finished tied for second-to-last place in the conference (5-13) and lost to Boston College in the first round of the ACC tournament 85-72.
