Clemson baseball's Tristan Smith strikes out career-high 10 in 8-7 win over Duke

CLEMSON — Tristan Smith had himself a performance in Clemson baseball's 8-7 win vs. No. 6 Duke on Saturday

The sophomore logged a career-high 10 strikeouts across a season-high six innings of two-run ball (one earned). He allowed four hits and two walks on 102 pitches.

The southpaw has a 2.55 ERA this season, which leads all Tiger starters, and he has not allowed more than two earned runs. He has recorded 36 strikeouts, 10 runs (seven earned) and 15 hits across five starts this year.

Smith's start was backed by Jimmy Obertop and Tristan Bissetta. Obertop hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the fifth inning. Two innings later, Bissetta crushed a grand slam to right field to build an 8-2 lead.

No. 9 Clemson (16-2, 1-1 ACC) will go for its first ACC series win this season Sunday at 1 p.m. after Duke (15-4, 3-2) snapped the Tigers' 11-game win streak in its 5-2 win Friday.
