Will Clayton Kershaw return for Dodgers playoff run? Latest update on veteran pitcher.

Starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw has been a 10-time All-Star for the Los Angeles Dodgers, but he's dealt with various highs and lows when it comes to the postseason.

Kershaw signed a one-year deal to return for his 17th season but it has been derailed by injury. He has been sidelined since Sept. 1 due to a bone spur in his left big toe. The veteran pitcher has a player option for the 2025 season.

Kershaw has remained around the team and Dodger Stadium. He was celebrated before a game on Sept. 25 when fans in attendance were gifted a bobblehead with his likeness.

Will Clayton Kershaw pitch during the postseason?

Kershaw last pitched in the postseason in 2023, when he allowed six runs in the first inning of the National League Division Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Manager Dave Roberts pulled him before he could register two outs.

Kershaw was seen on video long-tossing before a team workout Thursday at Dodger Stadium, but general manager Brandon Gomes' recent update regarding Kershaw did not indicate that he will be available for this year's NLDS.

"We will continue to see how he is progressing," Gomes told reporters Wednesday. "I think we all know (Kershaw), if it gets to a point where he feels like he can go, we'll go, but currently he isn't any closer."

Gomes' comments were similar to what Roberts said in late September when he mentioned that Kershaw was in a "holding pattern."
