Addison Edgington, a star freshman on Circleville’s undefeated girls basketball team, sustained multiple severe injuries in a car crash Friday night, which sent her to the intensive care unit at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus.

Megan Edgington said her daughter has two broken vertebrae, her jaw is broken in three places and she sustained an injury to one of the carotid arteries in her neck. Additional scans and oral surgery were scheduled for Monday, Megan said in a text message to The Dispatch on Sunday.

“She is resting well now after getting her pain pump,” Megan wrote in the text.

Addison attended the Circleville boys basketball team's home game against Logan Elm on Friday, and the accident occurred when she was being driven home from a postgame dinner with friends at Roosters, Megan said.

According to the accident report from the Pickaway County Sheriff's Office, Addison was sitting in the right rear seat of a 2020 Dodge Charger when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The car went off the right side of the road and down an embankment, where it struck a utility pole and a tree before returning to the road, rolling multiple times and landing on its top.

Addison was ejected from the vehicle. The driver and a passenger in the right front seat had no apparent injuries, according to the report.

The driver was cited for failure to control the vehicle, the report said. The accident remains under investigation, Capt. John Strawser said Monday.

Addison, a 6-foot-2 center, has been a key performer for the Tigers, who are 15-0 overall, 10-0 in the MSL-Buckeye and ranked fifth statewide in Division II. She is averaging 16 points and seven rebounds and scored a career-high 31 points Tuesday in a 66-37 league win at Hamilton Township.

The school’s athletic boosters have created a fund to help cover Addison’s “medical expenses and any necessary physical therapy,” the group wrote in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. Donations can be made through Venmo at @Renee-McIlroy (Memo: Addison) or via a check made payable to the Circleville Athletic Boosters.

“Addison, known for her dedication and prowess on the basketball court, is facing a challenging road to recovery due to multiple injuries sustained in the accident,” the post read. “In this difficult time, we want to come together as a community and provide support to the Edgington family as they navigate through the aftermath.”

Circleville’s game Saturday night at Teays Valley was postponed. The Tigers’ next scheduled game is Wednesday at Washington Court House.

Addison's twin, Emilea, also plays on the team.

“They’re having a wonderful season,” Megan said. “The team meshes so well. … I hope they finish out strong without Addison being there with them.”

According to Megan, doctors haven’t said how long Addison will be in the hospital, but the family has received comfort from the community of Circleville.

“I couldn’t tell you how many calls and messages (I’ve received),” Megan said.

Several Circleville teams, including girls golf and volleyball, and opponents took to social media to express support.

“We love you lefty!!!” the girls basketball team’s X account posted. “You have our heart and prayers!!!”

“Prayers to Addison and her family,” read a post from the girls golf team’s account, with the hashtag #TigerStrong.

“Prayers to the Circleville community from Lions softball,” posted the account for the Liberty Union softball team, a league rival of Circleville. “Our thoughts are with you.”

“Our thoughts are with Circleville (and) their families,” the Hilliard Bradley girls basketball team’s account posted. “Addison is a heck of a player — we had the opportunity to compete against her this summer. Hoping for a quick recovery kiddo.”
