Christie Sides becomes the first Fever coach to win this award

One night after clinching a playoff berth, head coach Christie Sides is making more Indiana Fever history.

The WNBA announced Wednesday that Sides is the coach of the month for August — the first time a Fever coach has earned the honor.

Sides led the Fever to a 5-1 record in the month of August, which included the final game of a sweep over the Phoenix Mercury and avoiding sweeps from the Seattle Storm and Connecticut Sun.

The Fever led the league in scoring in August, averaging 89.7 points per game. Indiana’s 110.7 offensive rating also led the league.

That post-Olympic break surge catapulted the Fever to No. 6 in the standings and allowed them to clinch a playoff spot — their first since 2016 — with seven games left in the season.
