BATON ROUGE – It wasn't easy, but LSU women's basketball toughed out its first-round NCAA Tournament win over Rice Friday afternoon.
The No. 3 Tigers couldn't quite find its rhythm for most of the game but made the plays down the stretch to put the Owls away, 70-60, to advance to the second round of March Madness.
LSU (29-5) will now face No. 11-seed Middle Tennessee (30-4) inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center Sunday for a chance to advance to the Sweet 16 next weekend.
The Blue Raiders, led by guard Savannah Wheeler, upset No. 6 Louisville, 71-69, in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
