Boston Celtics forward Gordon Hayward will undergo surgery Wednesday night, sources told Yahoo Sports, after being diagnosed with a left ankle dislocation and left tibia fracture.

Hayward and the Celtics reviewed his MRI results Wednesday before deciding on the procedure but a timetable for his recovery will not be known until after surgery, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Hayward suffered the injury six minutes into his Celtics debut Tuesday night in Cleveland’s 102-99 victory.

Hayward, 27, joined the Celtics this past offseason, signing a four-year, $128 million maximum contract. He was expected to form a championship contender alongside Kyrie Irving and Al Horford after spending his first seven seasons in Utah, where he made the All-Star team last year.
