The Boston Celtics chased a 3-point record and failed in epic fashion; they aren't alone in that result. The folks behind the "Secret Base" YouTube channel took a closer look at a game where the Celtics realized they were very close to breaking a record for the most shots made in a regular season game from beyond the arc -- and proceeded to miss every attempt they made from deep for the rest of the game.

What causes these weird shifts in perception and play on the court? Is it a mere matter of psychology? Or is there something even stranger going on when such situations take shape? Using this and a number of similar examples in sport to illustrate how things can get odd when you are close to breaking a record in sports.

Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what they had to say about the Celtics, records, and the weirdness that can ensue on the cusp of breaking them.
