Cleveland Cavaliers sign Nae'Qwan Tomlin of Memphis basketball
The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed former Memphis basketball standout Nae'Qwan Tomlin, Tomlin's mentor, Steve Barnett, told The Commercial Appeal.
It is unclear at this point what type of contract he has agreed to, Barnett said.
The 6-foot-10 forward played the final 21 games of 2023-24, his only season with the Tigers, averaging 14.0 points and 6.0 rebounds.
Tomlin was a midseason transfer from Kansas State. The native of Harlem, New York, spent one season with the Wildcats, helping Jerome Tang's team reach the Elite Eight in 2022-23, putting up 10.4 points and 5.9 rebounds along the way.
Tomlin's organized basketball career began at Monroe (New York) Community College. After one season there, he spent two seasons at Chipola (Florida) College. The 23-year-old did not play high school basketball due to academic ineligibility.
But once Tomlin turned a corner, he never turned back. In his partial season at Memphis, he connected on 60.1% of his field goals, which included a 39.6% clip from the 3-point line.
