Caroline Wozniacki marries NBA veteran with best friend Serena Williams as a bridesmaid
Flanked by a number of friends from the world of professional sports, Caroline Wozniacki and former NBA All-Star David Lee tied the knot in Italy this Saturday.
Per Vogue, the nuptial reportedly took place with 120 guests at the the Castiglion del Bosco Hotel in Tuscany, where Justin Verlander and Kate Upton also wed in 2017.
Wozniacki and Lee, who played 12 seasons in the NBA and won a ring in 2015 with the Golden State Warriors, met in Miami during a Warriors road trip, at dinner through a mutual friend.
One of Wozniacki’s greatest rivals on the court, Serena Williams, was present for the ceremony as a bridesmaid, which isn’t a surprise given her relationship with the bride. Even though Williams holds a 10-1 career record against Wozniacki, the pair are known as best friends off the court.
Other attendees included Williams’ husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, two former teammates of Lee’s, Pau Gasol and Harrison Barnes, and three-time Grand Slam winner Angelique Kerber.
Naturally, there were many pre-wedding athletic challenges for guests to take part in, and one that Wozniacki’s bridesmaid fully dominated in, via Vogue:
The games were meant to serve as an ice breaker—a way for guests from her side and his side to get to know each other better in a picturesque, silly setting—and it worked! Throughout the rest of the weekend, attendees couldn’t help but talk about how much fun they’d had out on the field. Challenges included over-the-top obstacle courses, outlandish relay races, and an epic tug-of-war, which everyone said Serena Williams won single-handedly.
