Carolina Panthers vs. New Orleans Saints game recap: Everything we know
Something had to give at Bank of America Stadium on Sunday, where the Carolina Panthers (losers of five straight games) hosted the New Orleans Saints (losers of six straight games). And to the surprise of many, it was the former who didn't give it up.
Here's everything we know from the Panthers' second triumph of the season:
Final score: Panthers 23, Saints 22
Keys to the game
Panthers quarterback Bryce Young came through with a solid and poised showing. He completed 16 of his 26 throws for 171 yards, a touchdown and an interception—one that was stripped out of the hands of wide receiver Xavier Legette.
Running back Chuba Hubbard was the engine of the offense once again. He kept the unit moving with 72 rushing yards and a pair of scores.
A number of follies from the Saints helped the bottomline for the Panthers. New Orleans committed 10 penalties for a combined loss of 109 yards.
It was over when . . .
The Panthers were presented with an opportunity to take the lead late in the fourth quarter and seized it. Thanks to a 17-yard catch by Legette, a 22-yard gain on a pass interference call on Saints linebacker Demario Davis and a 16-yard touchdown rush from running back Chuba Hubbard, Carolina took a 23-22 edge with 2:18 remaining in the game.
Then, came the stop. New Orleans was facing a fourth-and-4 from their own 46-yard line at the 1:09 mark, when quarterback Derek Carr missed on a pass deep down the left sideline to wide receiver Cedrick Wilson with cornerback Mike Jackson on coverage.
Players of the game
RB Chuba Hubbard: 15 carries, 72 yards, two touchdowns
TE Ja'Tavion Sanders: four receptions, 87 yards
QB Bryce Young: 16-of-26, 171 yards, touchdown, interception, 12 rushing yards
What's next?
Guten Tag!
The Panthers (2-7) will "host" the New York Giants (2-7) from Munich, Germany in Week 10.
