Carmelo Anthony was awful in his revenge game against the Thunder
Houston Rockets forward Carmelo Anthony knows revenge is a dish best served cold. Unfortunately for him, the only thing chilly Thursday night was his shot.
Anthony had a game to forget in his return to Oklahoma City. The 34-year-old Anthony went 1-for-11 from the field, scoring just two points in 20 minutes. Anthony’s only basket of the night came on a goaltending call.
Anthony wasn’t the only player to struggle. The Rockets scored a season-low 80 points during their 98-80 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday. The Thunder managed to win despite Russell Westbrook missing the game due to an ankle injury.
For Anthony, the game presented a chance to prove to his old team that he still had something left in the tank. The Thunder traded Anthony in the offseason after he expressed displeasure in being used as a bench player. After his contract was bought out by the Atlanta Hawks, Anthony signed with the Rockets.
While the revenge game narrative was strong, it actually didn’t matter much to Anthony. He praised the Thunder prior to the contest, saying Oklahoma City was “a special place” to him.
Prior to Thursday’s game, Anthony had struggled to find his rhythm with his new team. He came into the contest averaging a career-low 14.7 points per game. He’s also averaging a career-low 30.4 minutes per game with Houston.
Both of those totals decreased following his performance against the Thunder.
