Canadiens: Dach's Slow Start Is No Big Deal

Martin St-Louis nearly started a panic among Montreal Canadiens fans yesterday when he said he didn't know if Kirby Dach would be playing tonight. The second-line center took part in the morning skate this morning and confirmed to reporters he was fine in the following media availability.

I feel good slowly trying to build back the game and get to a spot where I was last year, kind of feel that confidence again. That's just going to come with time, you can't really force these things, I mean it's just about being in the right spots and doing what I can to get back into game shape as soon as possible.

Even though he's only got an assist through four games so far, there's no reason to panic yet. The pivot likes how his line is playing the game and believes they are in the right spots, but he adds that it takes time to build chemistry to play as a unit of three.

Couple that with how much time he missed last season, and I think it's more than fair that he's not yet putting points up on the board. It's a shame because injuries really derailed St-Louis' training camp. He came in and immediately put the lines he thought he would start the season with together. He seemed set on not losing time and getting right down to business.

The Laine injury was a significant setback not only for the strategy planning but also for the team's enthusiasm for the new season. Thankfully, Lane Hutson has allowed the excitement to return by showing what he's made of.

Results might not have come for the second line yet, but it's no time to panic. Give them players some time, and they will get there. Who knows, it might even start happening tonight against a tired Los Angeles team.
