The Atlanta Falcons did not re-sign defensive lineman Calais Campbell over the offseason but it wasn't due to a lack of productivity. The 37-year-old led the team with 6.5 sacks last season and was a great presence in both the locker room and the community while he was in Atlanta.

Campbell signed with the Miami Dolphins in free agency and will look to help the team reach that next level after a playoff appearance in 2023. The veteran defensive lineman praised both of Atlanta's quarterbacks following Tuesday's joint practice.

"Kirk Cousins is a legend in this game," said Campbell. "He's had a lot of success and made some beautiful throws today. And then the Penix kid looks pretty good, too. He made a couple really, really nice throws and good reads and stuff."

Campbell has always been extremely classy, so it's no surprise to hear him saying positive things about his former team. "Definitely have a lot of respect for the team over there," said Campbell. "I think they'll be really good this year."

Atlanta's revamped defensive line had a good showing against Miami on Tuesday. The two teams have a second joint practice on Wednesday morning before facing off in the preseason opener on Friday evening at Hard Rock Stadium.

The Falcons released their first preseason depth chart on Tuesday afternoon. Penix was listed as the backup quarterback behind Kirk Cousins.
