Butler basketball sophomore Connor Turnbull enters transfer portal
For the second time in two days, a Butler player has entered the transfer portal. On Tuesday, sophomore forward Connor Turnbull has chosen to depart the program.
Turnbull joins guard DJ Davis as players to enter the transfer portal this offseason.
Insider: Butler reset its roster, then expectations with hot start. But the end leaves sour taste.
Turnbull appeared ready for a breakout sophomore season but was limited by injury this year. The 6-10 Missouri native has a tantalizing combination of size, shooting and athletic ability, but he was never able to show his skills over an extended period of time. Turnbull averaged 4.1 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game in nine games this season. Turnbull's six blocks against East Tennessee State on Nov. 13 were one shy of Butler's single-game record.
An elbow injury ended Turnbull's season after nine games and because he played less than 30% of Butler's games, he should be eligible for a medical redshirt at his next school, giving him an extra year of eligibility.
Butler now has four open scholarships. Brebeuf Jesuit's all-state guard Evan Haywood is the lone member of the 2024 class.
