Buffalo Bills 14, New York Giants 9: Final score, recap, highlights of thrilling ending
ORCHARD PARK ― Quarterback Tyrod Taylor, who Sunday night will make his first start for the New York Giants, and his first overall since 2021 when he was with Houston, knows exactly what type of environment he’ll be dealing with at raucous Highmark Stadium.
“For sure, it’s going to be an electric atmosphere,’’ said the 34-year-old Taylor, who spent the best three seasons of his 13-year NFL career with the Buffalo Bills as their starting quarterback from 2015-17. “Obviously, their fan base is one of the wilder ones, I guess they’ve been labeled as it. They create a great environment for football. As a player, I think you live for these types of environments and these types of moments.”
Interestingly, for much of Taylor’s time in Buffalo it was the Bills who were usually underdogs and occasionally on the wrong side of one-sided scores. Now, the Bills have been one of the best teams in the NFL since 2020, and as the Giants’ quarterback starting in place of injured Daniel Jones, Taylor is once again facing a tall task playing in a game in Orchard Park.
This story will be updated throughout the night.
Final score: Buffalo Bills 14, New York Giants 9
New York began from its 43-yard line with 1:24 left. Saquon Barkely ran for 7 yards and made a 4-yard catch for a first down. Tyrod Taylor converted a third down with a 5-yard pass to Darren Waller to the Bills' 32 and Taylor spiked the ball to stop the clock with 32 seconds left. Taylor hit Darius Slayton for 6 yards and Barkley lost a yard on a reception. On fourth-and-5, Taylor completed to rookie Jalin Hyatt for 12 yards. Taylor spiked the ball again to stop the clock with 9 seconds left. On second down, Taylor scrambled out of bounds for 5 yards to set up the final play. On third-and-5 Taylor threw incomplete for Waller but linebacker Terrel Bernard was called for pass interference, creating an an untimed down from the 1-yard line. Taylor threw to Waller in the back of the end zone but cornerback Taron Johnson was in Waller's face and the ball fell incomplete.

New York had the ball at the 1-yard line to end each half and came up empty both times. The Giants gained more total yards, had more time of possession and won the turnover battle.
Josh Allen completed 19 of 30 passes for 169 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Stefon Diggs caught 10 of 16 targets for 100 yards and James Cook rushed for 71 yards on 14 carries. Tyrod Taylor went 24 of 36 for 200 yards and Saquon Barkley had 93 yards rushing on 24 carries in his return for the Giants.
Buffalo improves to 4-2 and travels to New England next Sunday. New York falls to 1-5 and hasn't scored an offensive touchdowns since Week 3.

Tyler Bass misses another field goal - 1:24 4th quarter
Buffalo needed a first down or field goal. It didn't get either. Latavious Murray took consecutive carries for no gain and 1 yard. Buffalo passed on third down with Josh Allen's pass too low for Dawson Knox. Tyler Bass missed a 53-yard field goal to give the Giants another chance.
Giants turn it over on downs - 1:45 4th quarter
New York had two minutes to do what it hadn't done all game: score a touchdown. The Giants' possession began with 3:48 remaining. Tyrod Taylor connected with Wan'Dale Robinson for 5 yards, Saquon Barkley was dropped for a 1-yard loss and Taylor completed to Darren Waller for 7 yards to convert the third-and-6. Waller made a 5-yard catch but Barkley lost yardage on another run when he was tackled by Greg Rousseau for a 3-yard loss on the final play before the two-minute warning. Taylor went deep but incomplete for rookie wide receiver Jalin Hyatt on third down. On fourth-and-8, Taylor's long pass intended for Darius Slayton along the left sideline was incomplete and New York turned the ball over on downs with 1:45 left.
Josh Allen throws TD pass to Quintin Morris: Bills 14, Giants 9
Buffalo has scored touchdowns on two straight drives to take a lead. Giants cornerback Adoree' Jackson was called for defensive holding to give the Bills their initial first down of the possession. Two plays later, Josh Allen completed to Stefon Diggs for 14 yards. A 5-yard run by James Cook and 5-yard pass from Allen to Diggs gave Buffalo another set of downs. On third-and-2 from the Giants' 24, Allen hit Diggs for 5 more yards. Allen capped off the drive with a 15-yard touchdown pass to tight end Quintin Morris. Allen escaped pressure, ad-libbed and squeezed the pass to Morris between two defenders. It was Morris' first target of the season. Allen is 11-for-11 in the second half.

Graham Gano field goal gives New York the lead: Giants 9, Bills 7
New York went 79 yards in eight plays but ended up with its third field goal. The Giants served up a heavy dose of Saquon Barkley on the drive. Barkley opened with runs of 19 and 34 yards to reach the Bills' 37. Linebacker Terrel Bernard was flagged for defensive holding and New York had first-and-10 from the Bills' 20. Barkley ran for 7 yards and first down but Matt Breida took a carry 2 yards and Tyrod Taylor was flushed out of the pocket and threw incomplete on third-and-1. New York elected for a Graham Gano 29-yard field goal instead of going for it on fourth down.
Josh Allen throws TD pass to Deonte Harty: Bills 7, Giants 6
Buffalo has points and the lead. Josh Allen orchestrated a a 17-play, 89-yard touchdown drive to give Buffalo the lead. Allen completed passes to guys not named Diggs. He hooked up with Dawson Knox for 10 yards and Khalil Shakir for 13 yards to the Giants' 36. Allen converted a third-and-6 with a 7-yard pass to Diggs and Latavius Murray rushed for 12 yards to get into the red zone. Murray's 3-yard run on third-and-2 gave the Bills first-and-goal from the Giants' 2. Allen tossed a 3-yard touchdown to Deonte Harty, who caught the ball out of the backfield and walked into the end zone.

Bills vs. Giants: Fight draws several penalties in third quarter
Giants drive stalls in Buffalo territory - 9:52 3rd quarter
The Giants didn't score to end the first half or to start the second half. New York's possession started promising. Tyrod Taylor completed to Wan'Dale Robinson for 13 yards, Taylor scrambled for 7 yards and Saquon Barkley rushed for 7 yards. New York picked up another first down with an 11-yard Taylor to Robinson connection. But Taylor was sacked two plays later and he scrambled for 3 yards on third-and-14. Jamie Gillan punted 33 yards to the Bills' 11. New York's last two empty possessions could cost them if the Bills offense wakes up.
Giants botch clock management to end half
New York could've been up two scores at halftime but mismanaged the clock. The Giants had first-and-goal from the 1-yard line with 14 seconds left after a pass interference penalty in the end zone by Bills cornerback Kaiir Elam. Tyrod Taylor checked from a pass to a run and Saquon Barkley was tackled for no gain. The Giants were unable to get another play off as time expired.
The New York Giants had the opportunity to go into halftime up two scores.
Instead, they walked into the locker room with a 6-0 lead and without any additional points after this horrible ending sequence...

Josh Allen picked off by Micah McFadden - 2:23 2nd quarter
Josh Allen left the game for two plays, and two plays after he returned he threw an interception. Linebacker Bobby Okereke tipped a pass in the air and it was picked off by linebacker Micah McFadden. New York will start at its 41-yard line.

Damien Harris taken off field in ambulance
The Bills endured another scary scene involving a player being taken away on an ambulance.
Running back Damien Harris was injured after being tackled by New York Giants linebacker Bobby Okereke on Sunday Night Football. Bills players surrounded Harris as an ambulance came onto the field. Medical personnel loaded Harris onto a backboard.
Harris gave a thumbs up with his left hand to the crowd as he was loaded into the ambulance on a stretcher.
Harris and his wife were scheduled to have a gender reveal for their baby on Friday, according to Buffalo News reporter Katherine Fitzgerald.
Obviously, this is an emotional and scary moment for the #Bills…

Graham Gano makes second field goal: Giants 6, Bills 0
The Bills are now trailing the Giants 6-0 as Gano kicked a 43-yard field goal, a few minutes after Buffalo’s Tyler Bass missed for the first time this season.
The Giants’ defense is the story of the game. It has completely befuddled the Bills, and Josh Allen looks lost. Almost all of his throws have gone to Stefon Diggs and even that hasn’t worked that well.
And Tyrod Taylor has made just enough plays to produce the two field goals which have Highmark Stadium rather stunned at this point.
Tyler Bass misses 52-yard field goal - 9:34 2nd quarter
Buffalo was unable to tie the score. Tyler Bass missed a 52-yard field goal wide right. It's his first miss of the year. He had made all 27 of his kicks, nine field goals and 18 extra points, entering the game. Buffalo got into field goal range with runs of 14, 14 and 3 yards from James Cook.
Bills go backward with three-and-out - 13:45 2nd quarter
Josh Allen completed to Stefon Diggs for 1 yard on first down but Diggs was called for a false start on third down and Allen threw incomplete on third-and-14. Sam Martin punted 48 yards and a holding penalty on the Giants will give them a start on their 14-yard line.
A.J. Epenesa sacks Tyrod Taylor on third down - 14:46 2nd quarter
Buffalo defensive end A.J. Epenesa is continuing his stellar play. Epenesa, who had two sacks, a forced fumble and fumble recovery last week, swallowed Taylor Taylor for a 5-yard sack on third down. Jamie Gillian punted 64 yards and Deonte Harty returned it 3 yards to the Bills' 31.

Bills punt again - 1:29 1st quarter
Stefon Diggs is having a big quarter but the Bills offense is struggling. Josh Allen completed to Diggs for 28 yards on the first play of the drive to cross midfield. Latavius Murry ran for 10 yards and another first down but Allen threw three straight incompletions. Sam Martin punted to the Giants' 10-yard line.
Graham Gano makes 29-yard field goal: Giants 3, Bills 0
The Bills have gotten off to a pretty lousy start. After a three-and-out on the first offensive series, the second died when Gabe Davis lost a fumble in Giants territory.
New York took advantage, driving 45 yards to a Graham Gano 29-yard field goal, a drive that was assisted by a dumb personal foul penalty on Ed Oliver, and cornerback Kaiir Elam getting burned one-on-one by Darius Slayton for a 27-yard gain on a third-and-7 play.
Buffalo’s start is exactly the way you let an inferior team stay in a game - turnovers and stupid penalties. Check and check.
Gabe Davis loses fumble - 9:20 1st quarter
Latavius Murray has started both Bills series. He ran for 2 yards on first down and Josh Allen completed to Stefon Diggs over the middle for 18 yards. The Bills picked up another first down on a 9-yard pass from Josh Allen to Gabe Davis. Allen connected with Davis again for 9 yards but Davis fumbled while fighting for extra yardage and it was recovered by linebacker Micah McFadden at the Giants' 45.
Bobby Okereke forces the fumble and the @giants offense is back out there.

Giants stuffed on third down for three-and-out - 12:12 1st quarter
New York also began with a three-and-out. Tyrod Taylor's first pass went to Darius Slayton for 5 yards and Saquon Barkley ran for 4 yards but Shaq Lawson dropped Barkley for a 2-yard loss on third-and-1. Jamie Gillan punted 54 yards to the Bills' 15.
Buffalo starts game with three-and-out - 14:03 1st quarter
Buffalo received the ball first and gained 3 yards before punting. Josh Allen completed a short pass to Stefon Diggs on first down, but his pass for Diggs was incomplete on second down and wide receiver Gabe Davis got his feet tangled with Giants cornerback Cordale Flott which led to an incompletion on third down. Sam Martin punted and the Giants will start from their 24-yard line.
Penalty before the first play
There was a penalty after a touchback to star the game. Buffalo's Ja'Marcus Ingram and New York's Deonte Banks were each flagged for unnecessary roughness, which offset.
Bills vs. Giants weather
It's 48 degrees at kickoff, which makes it the coldest NFL game this season.
A big homecoming for several Giants

Remember the early days of the Sean McDermott-Brandon Beane era when it felt like the Buffalo Bills were being subsidized by former members of the Carolina Panthers?
McDermott and Beane both came to the Bills directly from the Panthers in 2017, and then there were a slew of coaches, front office types and players who also migrated north to continue their careers and help establish the foundation that now has led to three straight AFC East division titles.
The roles have been reversed downstate with the New York Giants since the start of 2022 as general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll left the Bills to take over the operation in the Meadowlands. Daboll has three ex-Bills coaches on his staff - Bobby Johnson (offensive line), Shea Tierney (quarterbacks) and John Egorugwu (inside linebackers).
And there are seven former Bills players on the team, most of whom will play Sunday night when the Giants visit Highmark Stadium to take on the Bills.
In addition to Taylor there’s wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins, running back Matt Breida, defensive back Nick McCloud, and defensive end Boogie Basham who are also expected to be active.
The other two former Bills are practice squad wide receiver Cole Beasley, who was not elevated to play, and tight end Tommy Sweeney who is on the non-football related injured reserve list.
Bills-Giants inactives are announced
The Bills listed three players on their final injury report as questionable - cornerback Dane Jackson (foot), and tight ends Dawson Knox (wrist) and Dalton Kincaid (concussion) and two of those players will not play.
Kincaid and Jackson are out, along with healthy scratches safety Damar Hamlin, A.J. Klein, Germain Ifedi and Alex Anderson.
This means Knox will be joined in two-tight end sets by Quintin Morris, and Kaiir Elam will probably get the start at cornerback in place of Jackson.
For the Giants, a lengthy list of players ruled out on Friday included quarterback Daniel Jones, linebacker Azeez Olujari, and offensive linemen Andrew Thomas, John Michael Schmitz and Matt Peart.
However, running back Saquon Barkley, who had missed the previous three games with an ankle sprain, will return to action.
What time is the Bills vs. Giants game on Sunday?
Kickoff is set for 8:20 p.m. on NBC.
Who sings the Sunday Night Football theme song?
Carrie Underwood is back for her 11th season with an updated version of "Waiting All Day for Sunday Night." If the tune sounds familiar it's based off Joan Jett's "I Hate Myself For Loving You."
What are the odds for the Bills vs. Giants game?
The betting line is Bills -15. The over-under is 44. The money line is Bills -1400, Giants +800.
Bills vs. Giants prediction
Sal Maiorana predicted a 34-13 Bills victory:
The only way the Bills don’t win this game by 14 or more points is if they play sloppy, and that means turning the ball over on offense, committing penalties, missing tackles that enable the Giants to move the chains, or making a disastrous play or two on special teams. With the exception of the Nov. 13 game against Denver, the Bills won’t be this clearly superior against any opponent this season.
With all of New York’s injuries, an already questionable roster is simply incapable of hanging with the Bills on either side of the ball. The Giants are going to have to get creative so the possibility exists for some trick plays on offense and maybe on special teams so the Bills will need to be aware of that. Still, I can’t see a path to the Giants even threatening to win.
