Buffalo Bills to sign free agent Mack Hollins: Here's what to know about the wide receiver
The Buffalo Bills made a move Wednesday morning by agreeing to terms on what is likely a one-year contract with wide receiver Mack Hollins, but this looks like nothing more than a depth move and a player who will contribute on special teams.
Hollins is 30 years old and has had only one season in his NFL career which began in 2017 where he was a productive member of an offense. That came in 2022 in his one season with the Raiders when he caught 57 passes for 690 yards and four touchdowns.
Hollins is not going to be a difference maker and the reality is that he is probably this year’s version of Trent Sherfield. Sherfield was the No. 5 man on the depth chart in 2023, and his best contributions typically came in the run game as a blocker.
Hollins immediately becomes the biggest receiver on the team at 6-foot-4 and 221 pounds, but to expect him to be a true running mate for Stefon Diggs and Khalil Shakir is a reach. The draft is where the Bills are going to need to find that player, whether it’s in the first round or the second.
When was Mack Hollins drafted?
The Eagles selected Hollins out of North Carolina in the fourth round of the 2017 draft. He played in 16 games as a rookie and caught 16 passes for 226 yards, then sat out all of 2018 with an injury. In 2019 he played 12 games for Philadelphia, starting three, but was waived in December and signed with the Dolphins.
With Miami he caught 30 passes for 399 yards and five TDs combined in 2020 and 2021, then went to the Raiders where he had his best season playing in Josh McDaniels’ offense with Derek Carr at quarterback.
Last season he was with the Falcons and caught only 18 passes for 251 yards.
