Brownsburg's top-50 nationally-ranked Avery Gordon commits to Purdue women's basketball
One of the nation's top 2025 girls basketball recruits is off the board.
Brownsburg junior Avery Gordon announced Sunday afternoon she has committed to Purdue, picking the Boilermakers over offers from Butler, Iowa, Michigan and Ohio State, among others. The 6-6 center is ranked 42nd nationally in her class by ESPN, which rates her as a four-star prospect.

A towering presence inside, Gordon adapted to the physicality of playing in the post last season, shooting 58% from the field and averaging 18 points, nine rebounds and three blocks per game for the sectional champion Bulldogs.
"You get used to the physicality," she said after dropping 21 points on Danville in the Hendricks County tournament championship game. "I like it. It makes me stronger and it helps my mental toughness."

'She just wants to get better.' Avery Gordon embracing the physicality, owning the post
Gordon collected 11 double-doubles — with a near triple-double vs. eventual regional champion Ben Davis in November — including a season-high 30-point, 15-rebound effort vs. Franklin Community and a 14-point performance in the regional finals vs. Lawrence North.
"Avery just gets better every day in practice," coach Debbie Smiley said last season. "She's stronger and her footwork is getting better as we progress through the season. She's got a pretty nice touch around the basket for a player her size and even from the free throw line. I'm just really proud of the way (she's developed)."
Gordon is the second nationally-ranked in-state recruit to commit to Purdue this week, joining South Bend Washington standout Kira Reynolds, who's ranked No. 59 by ESPN. Fort Wayne Snider senior Jordyn Poole, the No. 54 prospect in the 2024 class, committed to Purdue over the summer.
Brownsburg opens the season on Halloween at Warren Central.
