Brandon Clarke to make season debut in Grizzlies-Lakers after Achilles injury. What to know
Brandon Clarke will make his season debut on Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Lakers, according to Memphis Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins.
Clarke, a 6-foot-8 forward, is in his fifth season with the Grizzlies. He tore his left Achilles on March 3 of last season on the road against the Denver Nuggets.
"Welcome back, B.C." Jenkins said.
"(Clarke's) approach was phenomenal," Jenkins added. "It's been a long journey. Obviously he got to get his game legs under him in the first week or so. I expect him to go out there and play with some pop, play with some juice and make some winning plays."
Adding Clarke will help a Grizzlies frontcourt that hasn't had much consistent production due to injuries and roster transactions. Clarke has averaged 10.7 points on 60.4% shooting in his career. He earned a four-year, $52 million contract extension last season.
The Grizzlies (24-48) have 10 games remaining. Memphis will monitor Clarke's minutes by playing him in spurts. Two back to backs remain on the schedule. The Grizzlies will revisit Clarke's status for each of those sets.
The goal is for Clarke to get reps ahead of a healthy offseason.
"We're definitely going to be smart with his minutes after the long layoff," Jenkins said. "We'll take it week by week. It's not going to be a game by game thing."
