Brady Cook injury updates: Missouri football QB leaves game against Alabama in 2nd quarter

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Missouri football starting quarterback Brady Cook left the Tigers’ game against Alabama in the second quarter, jogging with medical trainers to the north end zone tunnel. A team spokesperson told the Tribune that he will not return to the game.

The spokesperson also said that Cook left the game for an "upper body" injury, not necessarily because of the ankle issues that kept him on the Tigers' availability report for most of the week.

Cook quickly returned to the sideline, but did not have a helmet in his hands.

Now, it seems his day is done.

He was replaced by backup Drew Pyne with the score 6-0 with 4:38 remaining in the first half. Pyne threw a pick on his fourth play, and Alabama made the most of a short field to score the game's first touchdown and make the score 13-0.

Cook seemingly reaggravated the injury that made his availability a major question mark in the week leading up to Mizzou’s visit Saturday to Tuscaloosa. He had taken a couple of hard hits through two quarters, but did not appear to be moving with too much hindrance

Cook had been dealing with a high-ankle sprain leading into the game, and was marked as a game-time decision on the Tigers’ final availability report that was published 90 minutes before the 2:30 p.m. kickoff.

The Tigers started Cook, who missed approximately half of MU’s game versus Auburn last Saturday with the same injury but returned late in the third quarter to lead a two-touchdown comeback win.

Leading into the game, there did not appear to be too much doubt that the Tigers were going to attempt to play a banged-up Cook over Pyne. The major question was how long Cook would be able to last.

The answer, as of the latest update, was the second quarter.

There is currently no update on if and when Cook may be able to return to the game.
