The International Boxing Hall of Fame made history on Tuesday with a ballot that, for the first time ever, included female boxers. Naturally, Laila Ali was among them.

The daughter of Muhammad Ali is one of 12 women nominated to the Hall of Fame’s new women’s categories. The others are Sumya Anani, Regina Halmich, Holly Holm, Susi Kentikian, Christy Martin, Lucia Rijker, Gisselle Salandy, Mary Jo Sanders, Laura Serrano, Ana Maria Torres and Ann Wolfe.

All nominees except for Kentikian are already members of the International Women’s Boxing Hall of Fame.

It’s worth noting that there are already two women in the Boxing Hall of Fame. Promoters Aileen Eaton and Lorraine Chargin were enshrined in 2002 and 2018, respectively, in the non-participant category.

The men included on the 2020 ballot are Jorge Arce, Timothy Bradley, Vuyani Bungu, Joel Casamayor, Diego Corrales, Carl Froch, Bernard Hopkins, Sergio Martinez, Juan Manuel Marquez, Shane Mosley, Antonio Tarver and Israel Vazquez.

Results of the voting will be announced in early December, with the 2020 induction weekend scheduled for June 11-14 in Canastota, New York.
