It's Blue, baby: Detroit Lions to wear all-blue uniforms for home playoff game vs. Rams

Lions quarterback Jared Goff, right, and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown celebrate the Lions' 30-24 win on Sunday, Dec. 24, 2023, in Minneapolis, to clinch the NFC North Division.

One of the biggest questions of the week surrounding the Detroit Lions and their first playoff game in seven seasons has been answered.

No, it’s not a Sam LaPorta injury update or another angle of the Jared Goff-Matthew Stafford trade.

The Lions announced they would be wearing their all-blue uniforms on social media for the wild-card matchup with the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday night.

With a simple caption of three sets of eyeball emojis — the modern-day equivalent of ringing church bells — the Lions announced it would be the all-blue threads accompanied by the classic silver helmets as the uniform for the first home playoff game Detroit has seen in 30 years.

MITCH ALBOM: Matthew Stafford vs. Lions in playoffs a huge deal — except to him

The Lions have worn the all-blue uniforms five times this season and won all five games with that uniform combination. Detroit wore them for four home games against the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos. The Lions wore silver pants, the throwback uniform or their alternate gray uniforms with the blue helmet for the the other four home games this season.

They broke the all-blues out once on the road against the Minnesota Vikings, who wore all-white uniforms as a part of a “whiteout” game by the team, and secured the NFC North title while wearing one of their traditional home looks on the road.

The Lions wore some version of their white uniforms for every other road game this season.

The Rams are expected to wear their all-white uniforms, with blue and gold complementary colors and blue and gold helmets.
