U.S. federation posts emotional Landon Donovan tribute video ahead of his final international match
Landon Donovan will play his final match for the U.S. national team on Friday against Ecuador and to honor the occasion, the USSF has put together a stirring tribute video tracking his international career from bleach-blond 17-year-old to the country's all-time leader in both goals and assists. The video helps put Donovan's impact on the sport in the U.S. in perspective and reminds us not only how many great moments in the team's recent history he was part of, but also served as a driving force in creating.
Donovan, who will retire from the game at the conclusion of this MLS season, will wear the captain's armband for the U.S. and play about 30 minutes as he prepares to make one last playoff run with the LA Galaxy. He will be looking to end his international career on a positive note after his controversial exclusion from the World Cup squad last summer. There probably won't be a tearful embrace between him and manager Jurgen Klinsmann, but the fans in Connecticut will give Donovan more than enough love themselves.
