Demetris Robertson has reportedly signed FAAs with Ga. Tech and Cal
2016 recruit Demetris Robertson has reportedly signed financial aid agreements with two schools. And neither of those schools may end up being where he enrolls.
Robertson, the No. 1 athlete in the last recruiting class according to Rivals, did not sign with a school on National Signing Day. Prospects are not obligated to sign on NSD, rather the day is simply the first opportunity to do so even though it can seem like NSD is the only time top-flight recruits can officially commit.
According to Rivals, Robertson has signed an aid agreement with Cal. And according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, he's also signed one with Georgia Tech. FAAs are not binding like a letter of intent is; a recruit can sign multiple agreements and then choose a school.
An aid agreement also allows a school to recruit a signee without any restrictions. Robertson isn't the first recruit to sign an aid agreement without signing a letter of intent, and certainly won't be the last barring any rules changes. But we have to wonder, given the lack of recruiting restrictions, if his move will be one copied by other top recruits in the near future to get a better idea of their top choices.
Robertson, a native of Savannah, Georgia, also has a visit to Georgia planned, and has previously visited Alabama and Notre Dame. Per the AJC, he may also wind up at another school if his SAT scores improve. There could be another twist to Robertson's recruitment yet to come.
Robertson still plans an official visit to UGA on March 18. There are still three big selling points to Athens. Count on him to continue trying to add an approximate 50 points to his SAT score. That unlocks the chance to enroll at Stanford. That’s the school he’s long favored.
