Video: Pau Gasol sings The Fray’s ‘How to Save a Life’

Since the vetoed three-team deal that would have sent him to Houston for Chris Paul, Lakers power forward Pau Gasol has been the subject of many trade rumors. After the passing of Thursday's deadline, he now knows that he'll be sticking around Los Angeles for at least the rest of this season. It was good news for Gasol, who tweeted his thanks to Lakers fans around the world.

Gasol's day wasn't finished, though. As an ambassador for UNICEF, Gasol helped raise money for the organization at the "Playlist for the A-List" event at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles. To help the cause, Gasol sang a bit of karaoke, which you can watch above (via Dave McMenamin). Pau also posted a photo from the performance on Twitter, presumably because he wanted to deflect attention from the performance itself.

His choice, The Fray's 2006 hit and TV melodrama mainstay "How to Save a Life," was a natural choice for the event, even if it's not your personal preference. If we grade Pau on a curve — which seems fair given the event — then this sounds pretty good. He's not a stellar singer, but karaoke is always more about passion than skill. Anyone who has ever knocked Gasol for relying on finesse and not displaying a mean streak should take note. He's the total opposite in some aspects of his life.
