Bills QB Tyrod Taylor still in concussion protocol, but returns to practice
The Buffalo Bills don’t seem all too interested in competing this season, but at least there’s a chance they’ll have their starting quarterback in the lineup for Week 1.
Quarterback Tyrod Taylor, who suffered a concussion in the team’s third preseason game and has been in the protocol since, returned to practice on Monday according to the team. That doesn’t mean Taylor is cleared to play.

Taylor remains in the concussion protocol, coach Sean McDermott said on Monday morning according to Joe Buscaglia of WKBW in Buffalo. If Taylor can’t start, rookie Nate Peterman will start his first career game against the New York Jets. But at least Taylor returning to practice seems like some progress.
There’s no question Taylor will start if he’s healthy and has enough time to prepare this week. McDermott said last week Taylor is definitely the starter when healthy, despite some speculation about Peterman competing for his job. Now it’s just a matter of whether Taylor is well enough to play.
The Bills have made plenty of odd moves recently (like cutting promising second-year back Jonathan Williams when the team has no other proven backup behind LeSean McCoy), and seem to be trending downward as the season starts. It might get a little better if they can have their preferred starting quarterback under center for the season opener.
