Bill Hamid makes horrible goalkeeping blunder in D.C. United's loss in Orlando
D.C. United’s Bill Hamid still possesses the potential to, someday, become the No. 1 goalkeeper of the United States men’s national team. He’s that talented of a shot-stopper.
The 26-year-old got his first USMNT call-up in 2011 and won Major League Soccer’s Goalkeeper of the Year in 2014. But since winning that honor, Hamid has had his national team prospects slowed by injuries and limited by inconsistent play with United.

What happened to Hamid toward the end of Wednesday’s game at Orlando City was something else altogether. It could be chalked up to a lack of focus, or maybe a slippery ball on a night when heavy rain delayed kickoff for 40 minutes. What can’t be disputed is that Hamid committed a howler of epic proportions on Giles Barnes’ 30-yard shot with D.C. United trailing 1-0.

Hamid should’ve punched the ball with two hands instead of trying to catch it with both. Nonetheless, his 88th-minute blunder gave Orlando the insurance goal it needed to secure a 2-0 victory and end a six-game winless streak.
It also benefited Barnes, who finally had his tough luck turn for the better. The goal was his first for the Lions after being acquired from the Vancouver Whitecaps for Brek Shea in February to boost Orlando’s attack.

Glad to see his club win for the first time since April 29, Orlando City manager Jason Kreis could only shake his head and laugh after Barnes’ goal.
