Big takeaways from Steelers GM Omar Khan’s press conference
After moving his NFL Scouting Combine press conference from Tuesday to Thursday, Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Omar Khan met with the media and talked about the upcoming offseason. Here are our big takeaways from what Khan had to say.
Quarterbacks are still a mystery
No 5th year option talk for Najee Harris
Khan didn’t give us any new information about the potential of giving running back Najee Harris his fifth-year option. According to Khan, they have until May 2 to decide and so they see no reason to make any announcement ahead of that.
Excited about Arthur Smith
Khan plays most things close to the vest but didn’t hesitate to praise new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith and talk about how excited he is to see the offense. He did not however speak in any detail about how it would impact any particular players.
No trade talk
Khan chose not to address any of the multiple rumors flying around about the Steelers making any sort of move for a quarterback including trading for Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields.
Broderick Jones has a home
Last season, then-rookie Broderick Jones took over the starting job at right tackle. But when Khan spoke to the media, he made it clear that Jones’ future is at left tackle.
