New Big East grows to 10 members with addition of Butler, Creighton, Xavier

The new Big East confirmed Wednesday that Butler, Creighton and Xavier are joining the 10-team conference that will begin play next season.

The member schools also announced the completion of a 12-year television deal with Fox Sports and an agreement with Madison Square Garden as the site for the conference tournament through 2026.

"FOX Sports and its new national cable network, FOX Sports 1, will acquire television rights to all Big East game action, as part of a 12-year contract," according to the Big East release. "Under the broadcast partnership, FOX Sports will have television rights to a wide range of marquee Big East basketball games, including the annual Big East conference tournament."

St. John's president Rev. Donald Harrington said, "We are thrilled that MSG will continue to serve as the official home of the Big East tournament. In addition to being the center of the basketball universe, the Garden has served as a thrilling backdrop for so many of the Big East's most enduring memories and greatest individual achievements."

Butler and Xavier are leaving the Atlantic 10 and Creighton is bolting the Missouri Valley Conference after this season to join Georgetown, Villanova, Marquette, St. John's, Providence, Seton Hall and DePaul in the new Big East.

The conference will begin operations on July 1.
