Bengals fans irate with Jermaine Burton being inactive vs. Raiders
The Cincinnati Bengals ambushed fans on Sunday by making rookie wide receiver Jermaine Burton inactive.
Ambushed, because Burton seemed in line for major playing time and a possible breakout with Tee Higgins sidelined.
Joe Burrow had called for Burton to get more playing time in Week 9 against the Las Vegas Raiders, too. Since Burton hadn't been on the injury report all week, his healthy scratch is potentially related to some sort of violation.
Considering the stakes of Sunday's game and Burton's chance to be the long-term No. 2 in the offense, Bengals fans and media had some things to say after the pregame announcement.
Update: Here's why the Bengals were forced to make Burton inactive.

This is squarely on Jermaine Burton.
Joe Burrow praised him midweek and said it's a must-win game. Zac Taylor talked about growing confidence in Burton after Friday's walkthrough.
For a third-round WR not to be in a position to be active for a game like today is mind-blowing.— Ben Baby (@Ben_Baby) November 3, 2024

The biggest fear with the Jermaine Burton situation is that the Bengals will double down on character and team captains when drafting.

Inexcusable, silly for Jermaine Burton. You can't throw away a chance to link up with Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase in a game that could make or break the season (and you can be the Tee Higgins replacement).
