The Cincinnati Bengals ambushed fans on Sunday by making rookie wide receiver Jermaine Burton inactive.

Ambushed, because Burton seemed in line for major playing time and a possible breakout with Tee Higgins sidelined.

Joe Burrow had called for Burton to get more playing time in Week 9 against the Las Vegas Raiders, too. Since Burton hadn't been on the injury report all week, his healthy scratch is potentially related to some sort of violation.

Considering the stakes of Sunday's game and Burton's chance to be the long-term No. 2 in the offense, Bengals fans and media had some things to say after the pregame announcement.

Update: Here's why the Bengals were forced to make Burton inactive.
