Some big shakeups occur on the latest round of 53-man final roster predictions for the Cincinnati Bengals coming out of the first preseason game.
There, the Bengals got some notable performances from rookies and even undrafted free agents who might now seriously have a shot at the final roster.
At the same time, some names fans might recognize really struggled, some despite going against a Tampa Bay Buccaneers team starting backups in the first of three preseason games before Week 1.
Here is a look at updated 53-man projections for the Bengals as they start prep for multiple joint practices and the remaining two exhibitions before the regular season.
Quarterback
Browning didn't look so great -- but he didn't last year this time, either. Then, he was fine when he stepped in with first-team weapons last season.
Running back
Moss missed the preseason opener due to sickness, so watch to see who is actually the "lead" back.
Wide receiver
Charlie Jones avoided a serious injury, so right now we stick with six.
Tight end
McLachlan is getting harder and harder to list as a cut, so they can either keep five or perhaps float one in a trade?
Offensive line
Carman has to go after that showing against backups. We already had Lee as a member of the 53, but it's nice to see him live up to his potential.
Defensive line
Carter out is the new big thing here. It's safe to think injuries are the only reason they aren't trying him on the edge because it seems obvious it won't work out in the middle.
Linebacker
We've had Casey as the undrafted to steal a roster spot but it is straight-up impossible to deny Njongmeta after that showing.
Cornerback
Hill looks like a No. 2 boundary corner at worst already, so the Bengals are winning big so far.
Safety
At this point, they can't not roster Anthony. He's just been too good at every stage so far.
Special Teams
(3): Evan McPherson, Brad Robbins, Cal Adomitis
Cut: Brad Robbins, Ryan Rehkow, Austin McNamara
McNamara was cut and that was a bit of a surprise, so don't count out Rehkow just yet.
