A baseball team wants to sell you the dirt Tim Tebow walks on
Now that New York Mets GM Sandy Alderson has readily admitted signing Tim Tebow to a minor-league deal wasn’t about baseball, rather about marketing and entertainment, might as well open the floodgates, right?

The Floria Fire Frogs, the Single-A advanced team for the Atlanta Braves, are looking to cash in on an upcoming appearance by Tim Tebow and the St. Lucie Mets by selling the actual dirt that Tebow will walk on. Yes, it’s part of what they’re calling “Tebow Weekend” — with $50 VIP experiences.

Keep in mind there’s a big difference in price between what you pay at a big-league stadium and Single-A. Normally a seat literally right behind home plate at the Fire Frogs game costs $12. So they obviously think they can squeeze some money out of Tebow’s followers.
We’ll say this, it’s better than needlessly picking on Tebow like opponents did a few weeks ago. If Tebow’s going to cause a reaction from the opposing team, it might as well be “Eh, get money.” Since that’s what the Mets are doing.
If you missed Alderson’s comments on Friday, he told the crowd at the SABR convention: “Look, we signed him because he is a good guy, partly because of his celebrity, partly because this is an entertainment business. My attitude is, ‘Why not?'”
Why not indeed? As long as everybody’s being truthful about it. And as long as Tebow’s fine with accepting what he’s become. A marketable commodity.
