Auburn basketball's March Madness opponent is Yale to open 2024 NCAA Tournament bracket

NASHVILLE — Auburn basketball is back in March Madness for the fifth time in the last seven years.

The Tigers were named a No. 4 seed in the 2024 NCAA Tournament on Sunday, and they'll play No. 13 Yale in the first round Friday. Auburn, which is in the East Region, will play the winner of a matchup between No. 5 San Diego State and No. 12 UAB in the second round if it can get by the Bulldogs.

Auburn has made the NCAA Tournament 13 times in its history, and Pearl now accounts for five of those occasions. He would've had an additional appearance in March Madness, too, but the 2020 edition of the Big Dance was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The matchup with Yale will take place in Spokane, Washington.

The Tigers, due in large part to their undefeated record in Quadrant II, III and IV opportunities this season, are a No. 4 seed in March Madness. Under Pearl, Auburn has previously been the No. 2 seed (2022), No. 4 seed (2018), No. 5 seed (2019) and No. 9 seed (2023).

Auburn has yet to lose a first-round NCAA Tournament game under Pearl's guidance. The Tigers have been bounced from March Madness in the second round three times (2018, 2022 and 2023), but made it all the way to the Final Four in 2019 before losing to Virginia in a thriller.
