Assistant coach Brandon Bailey leaving Ohio State for DePaul after one year
After one year at Ohio State, assistant coach Brandon Bailey is leaving for a job at DePaul, a source said.
The move takes him back to his alma mater and also reunites him with Chris Holtmann, who hired him to be his defensive coach during the summer of 2023. A Chicago native, Bailey graduated from DePaul in 2009 with a degree in sociology and also started his coaching career there as a graduate assistant.
Along the way, Bailey has worked for the NBA’s Detroit Pistons and Boston Celtics and was head coach for Boston’s G League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws, for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons. Last summer, he also spent time helping with Team USA as the Americans competed in the FIBA Men's World Cup.

When Holtmann was fired, Bailey remained on staff and worked with Jake Diebler, who moved from interim to head coach as the season progressed. He will join another former Ohio State assistant at DePaul: Jack Owens, who spent the last two years with the Buckeyes but left for the Blue Demons, left the Buckeyes before they began NIT play. While at Ohio State, Bailey was not responsible for off-campus recruiting.
As the Buckeyes navigate the transfer portal, Diebler is also in the process of finalizing his coaching staff. One hire has been announced: Dave Dickerson, who was on staff from 2010-17 and has been the head coach at Tulane and USC Upstate. Dickerson was associate head coach for Thad Matta for six years at Ohio State and spent five years with the Green Wave and the last six years with the Spartans.
Additions to the Ohio State staff are expected within the next week or so.
