Around the NFL: 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk tore his ACL/MCL
The Seattle Seahawks' primary rivals, the San Francisco 49ers, might be the only other team in the league that can rival the injury concerns Seattle has dealt with this season. During Week 7, the 49ers lost 28-18 to the Kansas City Chiefs in their Super Bowl LVIII rematch. Their defeat dropped them out of first place in the NFC West.
However, a home game and a division lead were not the only things San Francisco lost.
On Monday, it was announced wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk will be done for the season after suffering both a torn ACL and an MCL. Absolutely brutal timing for one of San Francisco's best offensive weapons
During the offseason, Aiyuk and the 49ers were engaged in contract negotiation drama. The star receiver had even gone as far as to request a trade. However, cooler heads prevailed, and Aiyuk was granted a four-year extension worth $120 million, of which $76 million was guaranteed. As a strong proponent of supporting players to get paid, these injuries are exactly why players like Aiyuk fight for every penny they can get.
Despite the mega extension, Aiyuk's production has not been there this year. Through seven weeks, Aiyuk had only 25 receptions for 374 yards and no touchdowns. Against the Seahawks, he only caught two passes for 37 yards.
Still, losing him is another blow to this otherwise high-powered 49ers offense that is already missing running back Christian McCaffrey.
