Around the NFL: 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey a 'long shot' for Week 2
The Seattle Seahawks' arch rivals, the San Francisco 49ers, kicked off their season with a surprise absense. Running back Christian McCaffrey, easily San Francisco's best player, was ruled OUT at the last minute before the 49ers took on the New York Jets on Monday Night Football.
By the looks of it, it could very well be the same sitaution for McCaffrey when this coming Sunday rolls around. NFL Insider Ian Rapoport gave an inside look to the situation Wednesday morning when he said it's a "long shot" to play this week due to his Achillies tendinitis. Rapoport claims that is what is giving McCaffrey more issues than his calf injury.

San Francisco in recent years has historically not done well when McCaffrey has missed time, even if it is for one game. However, on Monday night against the Jets, the 49ers did not miss a beat as running back Jordan Mason plowed ahead for 147 yards and a touchdown in the 32-19 victory.
For Week 2 the 49ers will travel to Minneapolis for a road showdown against the Vikings. Last year, Minnesota upset San Francisco 22-17 even with McCaffrey playing. The Vikings are fresh off a dominant 28-6 win over the Giants last week, and should provide much stiffer competition than the Jets.
