Army quarterback Bryson Daily declared inactive for today's game against Air Force

Army quarterback Bryson Daily is listed as inactive for today's service academy clash with Air Force, with an undisclosed injury or illness, per the sports information office. Reports say Daily has been held out of practice all week.

The absence will be significant since Daily has already set single-season records for touchdowns involved (26) and rushing (19), making him one of the most productive college quarterbacks in the nation. His name has been mentioned in the Heisman Trophy chase, though Daily would be a longshot.

Who Army football will start in place of record-breaking quarterback Bryson Daily

Junior Dewayne Coleman will get the start in perhaps the Black Knights' biggest game of the season. A junior from Selma, Texas, Coleman has appeared in relief five times this season, mainly as a fourth-quarter replacement as Army has built huge leads. Coleman has been effective in his duties, personally contributing 22 carries for 94 yards and one score and completing six of eight throws for 73 yards.

No. 21 Army is seeking an 8-0 start and keep alive in pursuit of a College Football Playoff spot, which would require a near-perfect record in order to make the 12-team field.

It is also the second leg of the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy Series, with Army needing a win in order to make the Dec. 14 game against Navy meaningful in the bid to repeat as champion.

Army was considered a considerable favorite in today's game against a struggling Air Force (1-6) team.

A 6-foot and 221 pounds, Daily has been described by coach Jeff Monken as a durable fullback. Daily has run the option attack very efficiently this season, often calling his own number on the play calls. He has been efficient with his ability to hit the holes and durable enough to withstand multiple tacklers.

Daily is coming off one of the more incredible stretches of performance by an Army quarterback. He has no fewer than 13 carries in any game, topping 20 against Rice (23), Temple (24) and in the last outing against East Carolina (31). He had five rushing touchdowns against ECU, four against Alabama Birmingham and three against Temple and Rice. He has topped 100 yards rushing in all but the opener against Lehigh.

Army plays at North Texas on Nov. 9.
