Is Chase Field turf or does it have real grass?
The Chase Field playing surface is now artificial turf after being natural grass for the majority of the team's time at the stadium.
For the franchise’s first 21 years, patches of brown and dying grass on the Chase Field surface had become a sort of summertime rite of passage in Arizona. The grass had a reputation for playing hard and fast, for balls zipping through the infield and into the gaps, and for fly balls bouncing especially high after hitting the ground. That changed when the team shifted to a new playing surface in Year 22, replacing the park’s natural grass with a state-of-the-art artificial surface.

Why does Chase Field have a pool?
The most recognizable feature at Chase Field is the pool in right-center field, which the team has occasionally jumped in to celebrate huge victories. The field accommodates 35 people and can be rented out for games.
How did it come to be? The Republic's Richard C. Ruelas detailed the story in 2017: "Three guys from Chicago were looking at a model of Phoenix’s proposed ballpark when one of them made an off-hand reference to a novelty shower that used to sit in center field in the White Sox stadium. That led to one of them — exactly who is disputed — saying something about how Phoenix’s new baseball stadium should have a swimming pool. That off-hand remark would become reality. When the park opened in 1998, there it was, just over the right-field fence, a shimmering crystal-clear swimming pool surrounded by umbrellas and deck chairs. Also a hot tub."

What is wrong with the Chase Field roof?
The stadium uses a retractable roof, but the roof can't be opened or closed during games because of concerns about the integrity of the cables used to pull it open and closed, which could potentially endanger fans. The issues have lingered since the beginning of the 2022 season. The team couldn't fix it before the 2023 season because of the World Baseball Classic and other events, but aims to fix it after this season. There is no threat of the roof collapsing, according to Diamondbacks President Derrick Hall. The Diamondbacks lease at the venue runs through 2027 and there has been speculation about how long the team could play there.
