Antonio Brown sued for assault and battery over altercation with moving truck driver
Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Antonio Brown is facing a lawsuit stemming from an altercation he had with a moving truck driver in 2020. Brown is accused of battery and assault in the lawsuit, which seeks $30,000 in damages from Brown, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
Brown's trainer, Glenn Holt, was also accused of assault and battery. The driver of the truck, Anton Tumanov, said he was attacked by Brown and Holt after they reportedly did not want to pay Tumanov $4,000 for delivering the items to Brown's home.
Holt was arrested by police at the time of the incident. Brown reportedly locked himself inside his home and turned himself in a few days later. In June, Brown pleaded no contest. A judge placed Brown on two years' probation and ordered Brown to undergo a psychological evaluation and anger management classes.
The lawsuit could open up Brown to additional punishment from the NFL, according to Pro Football Talk. Brown was suspended by the NFL for eight games in 2020. The league considered Brown's no contest plea when doling out that suspension.
Browns' legal team issued a statement later on Friday afternoon.
"We are disappointed, but not surprised, that this gentleman has reappeared well over a year after the incident," one of Browns' attorneys said in a statement, via the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. "It is telling that instead of in a way describing any injury, Mr. Tumanov goes into great detail about Antonio being a 'well-known athlete, member of the National Football League and active player for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.'
"We believe that speaks for itself as to the economic motivation here."
Antonio Brown back with Bucs in 2021
After returning to the NFL in 2020, Brown re-signed with the Buccaneers in April. Brown will make $3.1 million in 2021, and can make up to $6.25 million if he hits incentives.
Brown played in eight games with the Bucs last season, catching 45 passes for 483 yards and four touchdowns. Brown added two touchdowns during the postseason, including one in the Bucs' Super Bowl win over the Kansas City Chiefs.
