Anthony Edwards says FedExForum crowd was 'dead' during Wolves win over Grizzlies
Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards is used to playing in a hostile environment in Memphis.
But Sunday's game was different, he said, because the scene was nothing like the one he has come to expect.
“The fans was dead," he said. "I’ve never played in Memphis like this. This is my first time being in Memphis and not having the crowd into the game. So it’s kind of hard to get into it."
The Grizzlies and Timberwolves faced off in a memorable playoff series in 2022 that Memphis won in six games. Edwards and suspended star Ja Morant have been viewed as two of the rising superstars in the NBA.
But Sunday's game was uncompetitive, with the Wolves leading wire to wire. Edwards said he was surprised by the atmosphere.
"They usually be amped up," he said. "I’m guessing because Ja out, probably.”
The former No. 1 overall pick ended the game with a game-high 24 points. The Grizzlies (3-13) fell to 0-8 at FedExForum this season.
